Research shows that breastfeeding your newborn baby has a positive impact on its future health: stabilising blood sugars and providing natural antibodies against disease.
Unfortunately, breastfeeding isn’t always easy. Many women stop earlier than they’d like, often due to a lack of information and support. Our caring and experienced teachers will demonstrate simple techniques that will help you keep breastfeeding until you choose to stop.
Pre-birth sessions
Learning breastfeeding techniques before your baby arrives will build your confidence and help you avoid the most common pitfalls such as poor positioning. You and your partner will get to know your breastfeeding advisor and be able to discuss your personal needs and wishes.
Post-birth sessions
After the birth we can help you establish comfortable breastfeeding. If you’re experiencing problems, we’ll help you get back on track quickly. Virtually everyone can successfully breastfeed their baby with enough information and support, but if it turns out that it’s not the right road for you, we can advise on alternative options.
*Up to 30 minutes telephone support will be provided. If you have a pre-birth session this is within 16 days of your baby’s arrival or within 7 days of your postnatal appointment.
