What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the art of using pure essential oils derived from flowers and plants which are then added to a carrier oil (such as sweet almond, jojoba, apricot and wheatgerm) and applied to the body via a massage.

Can Aromatherapy be used during pregnancy?

Many oils can be safely used through out pregnancy although their application is more diluted and certain oils will be avoided at different stages. Generally three oils are blended together in a treatment to work synergistically; perhaps helping to calm and centre whilst uplifting a flat or tired mood and relieving congestion. A full consultation prior to your treatment will ensure a personalised blend is created for each session helping to address whatever ailments are present.

The flower oils such as rose, neroli, jasmine and ylang ylang are beneficial in treating mild depression and mood swings as they are thought to “mimic” certain hormones.

After birth the choice of oils will be limited during breast feeding but the right choice can result in a calmer and more relaxed mum and baby.
