What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic system of healthcare that emphasizes mechanical, structural and postural factors in the healthy functioning of the body. Osteopaths use a range of manipulative techniques to help the body find the most natural balance possible.

Gentle osteopathic treatment can bring great relief, freeing the body of unnecessary tensions and strains that may compromise the ability to adapt to the changes.

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial techniques are a very gentle form of treatment that harnesses the inherent motion of the body as a whole. Deep body rhythms such as the 'cranio-sacral' rhythm are utilised to harness the body's inherent tendency towards health and overcome blocks to its natural healing processes.

Why is Cranial Osteopathy & Osteopathy recommended in pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a very physical experience. The body must change to accommodate the growing baby and this can result in postural strains and aggravations of old injuries.

Many expectant mothers receive cranial osteopathy and osteopathy as a preventative measure. Reducing any pre-existing strains maximises the body's ability to adapt to the pregnancy and postural changes. Issues with fertility may also benefit from a structural check or "MOT".

How will Cranial Osteopathy help me and my baby after the birth?

We recommend every mum and baby receive a cranial osteopathic check within the first 3 months of your baby’s birth to address possible retained birth compression, particularly after very fast or long deliveries and where intervention such as ventouse or forceps are used. It is also recommended after a caesarean delivery.

Birth strains can result in pain and discomfort for you and your new baby. For you neck, shoulder and back pains caused by breastfeeding and increased lifting and carrying all can be supported through osteopathic or cranial treatment. Re-aligning your pelvis can lift your mood, energy levels and immune system.

For your baby this gentle treatment can help them settle in the first early weeks, improve feeding and help treat colic. By applying very subtle yet powerful techniques to the body, structural stresses and strains affecting health are released allowing you and your baby to thrive.

How will Cranial Osteopathy help my toddler and child?

As children grow older they face a series of new and exciting challenges. From teething and weaning to learning to walk and starting school, they must adapt as their bodies and environments change. Osteopathic treatment can help children to meet the challenges of growth and development, supporting their immune systems and helping their bodies through the necessary changes that will take place.

Is Cranial Osteopathy safe?

Osteopaths are state licensed medical practitioners in their own right. All Osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council and most health insurance companies will subsidise osteopathic treatment. We are happy to provide receipts and paperwork to assist your claim.
