How does Reflexology work?
Reflexology works on the premise that points in the foot relate to corresponding parts of the body and by stimulating a gentle pressure to specific points on the feet, the body releases tension throughout the body. Tender spots can be felt but generally the treatment is very relaxing. It can be effective when it is difficult to work on specific parts of the body due to inflammation for instance: frozen shoulder, sciatica, back and neck pain.
What is Maternity Reflexology?
Reflexology can be effective for reducing anxiety, low energy, back & neck pain, headaches, migraines and boosting immunity. In early pregnancy it can help with fatigue, morning sickness and general stress and tension. Reflexology treatments are offered to help conception occur, during the first trimester and throughout your pregnancy including post due date to help avoid a medical induction.
I don’t want to be induced, how can Reflexology help me?
Towards the later stages of pregnancy, reflexology is extremely relaxing and beneficial, helping with swollen puffy ankles, feet, hands and achy legs. Circulation is stimulated and points are worked on to promote a softening of the cervix and relaxation of the pelvis to encourage spontaneous labour. A calmer and more confident perspective is often felt.
Simple techniques can also be easily taught to partners to use during the birth process to support the body’s natural release of endorphins (pain relieving hormones) and encourage a more efficient labour with consistent contractions.
