Frequently Asked Questions
What Classes do you offer?
We offer a selection of morning, lunchtime, evening and week-end Pregnancy Yoga; NEW! Pregnancy Pilates; Mum & Baby Yoga and Baby Massage Classes. For full details please see our Current Timetable.
When should I start Yoga in my pregnancy?
To keep you fit, healthy and ready for labour we recommend attending regular weekly sessions from your second trimester through until your due date.
All our classes are designed to be taken as a minimum 5 week course – building week on week to give you skills and confidence to support your health and wellbeing however ALL CLASSES are now also available on a DROP-IN basis. We are also currently offering a FREE lunchtime class for you to try.
I’ve never done yoga before my pregnancy, will that be ok?
Our pregnancy yoga classes are suitable for the complete beginner or the more advanced student. We would encourage you to start from your second trimester but you are welcome to join at any stage of your pregnancy through until you give birth as each class is tailored to the needs of the students.
Classes are dynamic and fun and designed to keep you fit and active during your pregnancy. They help to develop strength and body awareness and are specifically focused on enhancing your wellbeing and relieving common pregnancy discomforts such as back and pelvic pain, heartburn and exhaustion.
Classes also include information regarding pregnancy and labour as well as post natal care for you and your baby. Depending on the stage of the group a focus may be given to birth positions, breathing and relaxation techniques.
We finish each class with a chance to enjoy our nourishing tea, ask questions and talk to other mums-to-be.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat and what do I wear?
Yoga mats, blankets and cushions are provided but please feel free to bring an extra towel or blanket if you wish. We suggest wearing loose, comfortable clothing. Socks are reccomended for the relaxation sequence.
What happens in a Postnatal Yoga Class?
In the few weeks and months after giving birth it is common to feel tired, possibly anxious or overwhelmed and as most if not all of your energy is focused on looking after your baby there is often little time for your needs.
Our focus is on helping you exercise safely, giving you lots of advice and support from sleeping to feeding and how to relax to restore your inner and outer glow. Classes also provide a great opportunity to meet other mums and share experiences – leading to greater wellbeing for you and your new baby.
When can I join a class?
We now have two post natal yoga classes. Our Mum & Baby Yoga can generally be started within 4-6 weeks of birth and is recommended until your baby is around 5-6 months old. Thereafter we suggest you join our Yummy Mummy class designed for mums only. This class focuses on continuing to strengthen your core muscles but allows you to develop greater fitness and is also ideal for when you are a busy mum of a toddler or are considering becoming pregnant again.
Also COMING SOON our NEW! Postnatal Pilates class focusing on new mum’s recovering from a cesearean section. Want to attend this class or have more details please contact us.
How can post-natal yoga help me?
However your baby arrived, it is important to help the belly muscles regain their strength and help the pelvic floor recover. Many new mums suffer back ache and this is most often due to weakness in the structural muscles caused by pregnancy. Correct exercises can rapidly help to improve backache and tense shoulders and neck, tight from hours holding and carrying your baby.
Does my baby do yoga too?
No, but your baby is welcome which means that you don’t have to worry about leaving your precious bundle elsewhere. Everyone understands that your baby may need a feed or cuddle mid way through but nobody will mind.
We can also provide one-to-one sessions by appointment.
